The Omen

I won 2 tickets for the Omen yesterday at Cineleisure Damanasara. Invited Leroy to tag along since I’ve never been to there since it’s commencement. It’s the Cathay Cinema that we are going to instead of the normal TGV or GSC. Seriously, the clips of the Cathay Cinema is pretyy much annoying with the concept of showing us the difference of it back then in 60s, 70s, 80s and now… the audio was distasteful. Not to forget its damn pretty long winding compared to the GSC’s.

Anyway back to the Omen, with warning spoiler ahead, here’s the sypnosis from cinemaonline

A remake of the 1976 film about the antichrist reincarnated in a little boy who gets adopted into the family of an up and rising politician.

To my preference, it scores 2.3 out of 5. The entire story was long winded and since I haven’t watch the original version, there’s nothing I could compare to. However, it does have few “cheap scare” as Leroy mentioned. Those where the scene whereby a sudden appearance of an object with high contrast to scare the shit out of you. It’s almost predictable when and where they’ll hit you but then again, being in a dark cinema with sudden white contrast on the screen will scare you a little.

The way they kill some characters and photo as clues really lame. Kind of too common as we often see it especially in Final Destination 3. Not much to my liking. Anyway, some of the death were pretty neat. Just like how Damien’s babysitter/nanny killed herself. The moment she jumped off the root, boy I do really hear her neck break. *crack* Neat!!! Not to forget how the US ambassador died in horrible accident with explosion.
Out of that many cast, I’m quite familiar with Julia Stiles from her appearance in Save the Last Dance. Man, her acting getting better in this movie but the development of her character was rather weak in the middle of the story. How she get to the idea that Damien wasn’t her son and he’s evil didn’t much potrayed. I think throughout the movie, she was able to communicate well with the audience was the time she is in the hospital. Desperate to save her own life, yet unable to move. Her eyes had made the contact. I could see fear in her pupils. Good job, Julia.

On the other hand, there’s some shot showing how the baby (thorn’s kid) was killed, showing us a skeleton body of the baby with broken skull, skeleton of the jackal (claimed to be Damien’s mother).

After the movie, I shared with Leroy that maybe we should start to check whether our friend who were born in June 6 bares any mark of 666 on the body. Preferable female friend and asked her to strip naked so we could check. I got 2 who were born in June 6 for a start. :p

Side track abit, prior to the screening, we had our dinner at Kim’s Gary restaurant. We noted there’s few chicks around. So, Leroy was commenting on one of the cute chicks. He added that she’s cute. I told Leroy that the chick is way too young. We had a bet that if she’s younger than 20, Leroy owes me a jug of beer. Needless to say, none of us approached the girl and asked. Yet, i still manage to capture a shot just to prove to Leroy.
