Was it me or it’s just not me. I always like talk about people. Yes, I talk about my friend. Just like the other day, instead of watching football (Germany vs Portugal) I’ve decided to get something to read. I insisted to him that I heading to his place to get the books.
There, finding his residence is like a maze. Or it’s just me being unfamiliar with the area. Once i reached there, we talked a while. I think Jerry know who’s the person I’m talking about since I been to Jerry’s place before I go to his place. Maybe it was right question at the right time. Just outside his house, quiet and deserted area I throw him a question. I asked how was his life recently. And I follow up with the next question, “How he ended up working for his FIL and making much more lesser than he used to earn.”
As you know, the rest is history. We go deeper into the subject. Making choices, routine job, money oriented and child-like behaviour while at work. He told me that he made 3 wrong moves since he left high school. First was working as a butler, and being the youngest butler in Malaysia at that time. 17 years old butler. Imagine that. Later, he was the youngest credit authorizer in his previous company. He missed out the opportunity to move forward as he was more concerned about making extra 600-800 back then. I guess because he was doing part-time study which affected his judgement. Or the age wise then. Well, who can predict the future right?
I told him that I’m also the youngest currently. Youngest in the company as salesperson. He added that at least with my age now, i’m more mature to handle some issues compared to those fresh high school leaver. True also. He has his point. Which reminds me of the time those silly things I did in college. By the way, we did have a couple of friends still studying and they are studying Master degree. He told me that doing Master without working experience is pointless. No one or no corporation in Malaysia willing to pay the Master Degree holder salary given that a Degree holder for the same position. There are many cases of which my Master Degree friends are going through.
When he changed his job, he was making very much less. Yet, he manage to survive. He added that human has the ability to survive disregardless of the paycheck you are getting. Just some adjustment required. Like most of my senior clients told me, as a young man we need to work for experience and knowledge instead of money. True. I’m glad that I’ve been given a platform to learn and gain experience in this company. One hell of good company to work in. These people really groom you and willing to teach you too.
Back to my story, it was a interesting conversation with him because it has been more than 2 years since we have a proper talk. He’s one of the friends that I grew up with besides Sotong. :p
