Last week I took a straight 3 days off work. Theorically la of course. This is because I need to attend my nephew wedding up north with my mom.
Due to the work commitment, I have arranged a meeting with my customer on Wednesday in Ipoh. Therefore, despite my annual leave I met up with my customer to discuss on the solution for them. Some would say that I am such a “sohai” that even I am on leave, I still be working and meeting up with customer. Can I say I am hungry? My mom was with me for the outstation trip and I dropped her off at my aunt place before I meet up with the customer. My colleague and I went to Onn Kei for famous “Ipoh Taugeh Chicken” or “beansprouts chicken” but to our dismay, they didn’t open that day. Talk about bad timing. Furthermore, Lou Wong also open their shop late in the evening. Since I will be staying overnight in Ipoh, my colleague Alex went to buy Ipoh Salted Chicken and some biscuits back to KL.
My mom and I sleepover at my aunt place for a night before heading to Jawi. The next morning before we embark on the journey, we went to the famous dim sum in Ipoh called Foh San restaurant. They only sell dim sum in the morning until afternoon. My uncle was old time there since he been driving taxi in Ipoh for years. Practically more than 40 years. So, he knew quite a lot of people in that area. So, we had a good seating for the dim sum. Their famous dish is the fish ball. Fresh and made daily.
We reached Jawi in the afternoon and after I drop my mom at my brother house, I took a nap until 3pm before heading to Penang island. I told EY (reallybites) that I wanted to go for Penang Laksa and she was kind enough to spare time to bring me out to new lane for food. Unlike someone who told me that he had presentation the next day and then in the afternoon that day, he went out “kai-kai”. Anyway, we have Penang Laksa, Penang Chee Cheong Fun, Penang Or Jeng (Fried Oyster) and Penang Char Kueh Tiauw. I would say the food is great since I have a good companion for the food. (She is a food lover) and she can be a good tour guide. :p
She picked me up at Tesco since that’s the only place I am familar with plus free parking space. Hehe… and after dinner with EY, I returned to the mainland. I met up with my ex-coursemate in Butterworth. He was working as petrol attendant there and we went for a drink until 11pm before I headed back to Jawi. It been quite some time since I met him and was talking about lots of stuff. From his relationship to work and from work to rubbish. Men.
The next day, I checked my emails and one of my dearly customer in Penang requested me to come into his office. He wanted me to rebind the documents since I courier him the admended pages only. So, want or don’t want I also have to go to Penang island again. I had a lunch with them at Crystal Point’s Moi Yuan and the food is not bad. Initally we wanted to go to Chef & Brew but the place is damn freaking crowded. It’s like free food there. Due to the time constraint, we ended up with Moi Yuan. Feeling full, I travelled around the island to find the famous Ghee Hiang’s Tau Sar Pheah. Thus I acted smart and drive blindly around the island without knowing the way to the place. Ended I making plenty of calls back to Alex since he is a Penangites. With his guidance here and there, I manage to locate the Ghee Hiang.
That night, I went into my dad’s birthplace which is Tanjung Piandang (12 km from Parit Buntar). It is a fishery village and my siblings are staying there. I decided to pay them a visit and it was sweet to see my nephews. They went for the Lantern Festival in their school, Nam Hua Primary. Unlike cities and towns, the atmosphere here was different. All the kids are enjoying the traditional mid autumn festival. The road was blocked to allow kids to walk around with their lanterns. Kinda big event there.
The next day was my nephew wedding and after the wedding dinner, my mom and I travelled back to KL. However, the wedding stuff and things happened during the wedding I will write about it in my next post.
The food I had with EY is after the jump
