The Little Engine That Could

To Ponder About No Comments

Just a little story I think it’s important to tell myself, my colleagues and everyone else. We seems to forgotten the story that inspired us. This reminds me of a movie…Ehm.

A little steam engine had a long train of cars to pull.
She went along very well till she came to a steep hill. But then, no matter how hard she tried, she could not move the long train of cars. She pulled and she pulled. She puffed and she puffed. She backed and started off again. Choo! Choo!

But no! the cars would not go up the hill.

At last she left the train and started up the track alone. Do you think she had stopped working? No, indeed! She was going for help.

“Surely I can find someone to help me,” she thought.

Over the hill and up the track went the little steam engine. Choo, choo! Choo, choo! Choo, choo! Choo!

Pretty soon she saw a big steam engine standing on a side track. He looked very big and strong. Running alongside, she looked up and said:

“Will you help me over the hill with my train of cars? It is so long and heavy I can’t get it over.”

The big steam engine looked down at the little steam engine. The he said:

“Don’t you see that I am through my day’s work? I have been rubbed and scoured ready for my next run. No, I cannot help you,”

The little steam engine was sorry, but she went on, Choo, choo! Choo, choo! Choo, choo! Choo, choo!

Soon she came to a second big steam engine standing on a side track. He was puffing and puffing, as if he were tired.

“That big steam engine may help me,” thought the little steam engine. She ran alongside and asked:

“Will you help me bring my train of cars over the hill? It is so long and so heavy that I can’t get it over.”

The second big steam engine answered:

“I have just come in from a long, long run. Don’t you see how tired I am? Can’t you get some other engine to help you this time?

“I’ll try,” said the little steam engine, and off she went. Choo, choo! Choo, choo! Choo, choo!

After a while she came to a little steam engine just like herself. She ran alongside and said:

“Will you help me over the hill with my train of cars? It is so long and so heavy that I can’t get it over.”

“Yes, indeed!” said this little steam engine. “I’ll be glad to help you, if I can.”

So the little steam engines started back to where the train of cars had been standing. Both little steam engines went to the head of the train, one behind the other.

Puff, puff! Chug, choo! Off they started!

Slowly the cars began to move. Slowly they climbed the steep hill. As they climbed, each little steam engine began to sing:

“I-think-I-can! I-think-I-can! I-think-I-can! I-think-I-can! I-think-I-can! I-think-I-can! I think I can - I think I can - I think I can I think I can–”

And they did! Very soon they were over the hill and going down the other side.

Now they were on the plain again; and the little steam engine could pull her train herself. So she thanked the little engine who had come to help her, and said good-by.

And she went merrily on her way, singing:

“I-thought-I-could! I-thought-I-could! I-thought-I-could! I-thought-I-could! I thought i could - I thought I could - I thought I could - I thought I could - I thought I could - I thought I could I thought I could –”

Whatever it is, its in your mind. Have faith and you could.

:(

Some information abt the event

MONSOON CUP SET TO BECOME SAILING’S RICHEST EVENT

KUALA TERENGGANU, Malaysia (Nov. 8, 2006) - The World Match Racing Tour resumes its 2006-’07 season at the end of the month with Stage 6, the Monsoon Cup, Nov. 29-Dec. 3 in Kuala Terengganu, Malaysia.

In its second year the Monsoon Cup has gained prominent status on the World Tour. It offers the richest prize purse for a sailing event, MR1 million (approximately $275,000), an increase of more than two and a half times last year’s purse, with the winner set to earn MR250,000 (approx. $68,000).

The Monsoon Cup was created last year to bring world class professional sailing to Malaysia and Southeast Asia. The inaugural event created an unprecedented economic return for Malaysia and the region of Terengganu. That success prompted the signing of Richard Mille Watches as title sponsor, which has helped increase the prize purse.

“The World Tour is delighted to see the Monsoon Cup increase its prize money so substantially in such a short amount of time,” said World Tour President Scott MacLeod. “Organizer Datuk Patrick Lim and his team deserve a lot of credit for setting a new standard on the tour.”

The Monsoon Cup will be the last ISAF Grade WC match-race regatta before next year’s Louis Vuitton Cup and America’s Cup and the last opportunity for crews to gain practice and interact with the on-water umpires.

Monsoon Cup 2005 winner and 2006 World Champion Peter Gilmour, skipper of PST, is back to defend his title against the likes of Ian Williams and Team Pindar, the current World Championship leader.

There also are four Cup syndicates in the mix, including Alinghi (Peter Holmberg), Luna Rossa Challenge (James Spithill), Areva Challenge (Sébastian Col) and Team Shosholoza (Paolo Cian).

A fifth Cup team almost entered, represented by BMW ORACLE Racing founder and owner Larry Ellison. Two weeks ago at Stage 5, the Allianz Cup Presented by Oracle, Monsoon Cup technical director Gilmour extended a wild card invitation to Ellison, who finished sixth in his round robin. A formal invitation was extended by Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, but Ellison had to decline.

One of the goals of the Monsoon Cup is to spread match racing across the region. In September organizers for the event held the inaugural Malaysian Match Racing Championship and Asian Match Racing Championship. The winners of those events, Malaysian Tiffany Koo and Adam Minoprio of New Zealand, gained entry to the Monsoon Cup.

Koo will be the first Malaysian woman to compete in an ISAF Grade WC match-race regatta. As an added highlight Koo turns 22 years old on Nov. 29, the first scheduled day of racing.

“I’m very excited and feeling great to be able to meet and sail against the world’s best skippers,” said Koo, who has been sailing since she was 7 years old. “I’m expecting it’s going to be very tough competition and not easy as this is my first international match race against the professionals, but what is more important is that I know that I am going to gain a lot more experience from the Monsoon Cup.”

A total of 12 teams are planned. The Heritage Bay Club in Kuala Terengganu will host the teams and racing will be held on Pulau Duyong Basin. The boat of choice is the Foundation 36, designed by Brett Bakewell-White.

The events of the World Tour serve to determine the ISAF Match Racing World Champion. Next year the Monsoon Cup will be the final event of the 2006-’07 season, and will crown the 2007 World Champion.

The World Tour is sanctioned by ISAF, sailing’s world governing body. The World Tour Partner and Official Car is BMW (Munich, Germany). World Tour sponsors include Sebago (Rockford, Mich.), the Official Footwear Supplier, Travel Places (West Sussex, England), the Official Travel Partner, and Wedgwood (Stoke-on-Trent, England), the Official Trophy Sponsor.

For more information on the World Match Racing Tour, its competitors and events, please visit the official World Tour Web site, www.WorldMatchRacingTour.com. World Match Racing Tour television programs may be viewed on demand by clicking on the television icon on the home page of the Web site.

Blog about their journey to Poppy

J asked why that I keep posting most of the dota events but not the Poppy Garden and their clubbings event?

Come to think of it, she does have a point. Therefore, last Saturday it was one buddy and a few lat kyok friends celebration of birthday for the November childs. Since no one was organizing the event, therefore no one willing to spend few hundred bucks over the few bottles of Chivas.

I woke up around 7pm that evening when Kelvin decided to pick me up for dinner. I was damn hungry and then we went to fetch S couple. 4 of us headed to 7ate9 for some snacks. At first, I was hesitate to order some food since it was quite costly for my dinner. Seeing S and Kelvin order like nobody business, then I also order la. I ordered a plate of side dish - garlic fried long bean worth of RM9.70 excluding taxes. That was a masterpiece of food I would say. Everyone that patrons 7ate9 should get a plate of the long bean.

Sorry guys, no pics from that as we all camera shy ma. Total spending was around 300++ for 4 person dining with additional 4 person whom drop by later for drinks. 8 of us sitting at 7ate9 until 11.45pm waiting for the Erik to call us. Until then, no one called up and assuming that 8 of us will go to Poppy early to open a bottle or two.

When we reached there, Estee was asking all of us to share and open 2 bottles of Chivas. Frankly to say, we decline the invitation stating that we are anticipating for Erik and the others to open first.

I tell you, these bunch of people drink liquors like drinking milk. Of course, its the nectar of life for them. Just to show you how well are they drinking, they finish 20 bottles of Chivas last time during S’s birthday. Here’s the picture showing the bottles they taken back dated in August.

chivas

Yeah~! Now, no more mana already. Depleted.

Water Filter

A water filter is a device which removes impurities from water by means of a fine physical barrier, chemical processes and or biological process. Filters are used to cleanse water for irrigation, drinking water, aquariums, and swimming pools.

Water filters are primarily used to soften water and remove chemicals such as chlorine. Some people believe that the contaminants found in drinking unfiltered drinking water can be harmful to your health, even increasing the risk of developing cancer. The most common problem with unfiltered water, however, is a bad taste or smell.

What’s FON up against?

By Joanie Wexler

The FON community is a grass-roots effort whereby residential Wi-Fi users share access across their wireless networks to their broadband Internet access connections. If the idea takes off, it could usurp (or create sources of interference in) muni/metro Wi-Fi networks being subsidized by city and county governments.

The muni Wi-Fi people are very touchy when people question their business models and whether Wi-Fi, initially intended as an indoor LAN technology, will continue to scale well across wide geographies. “Just come look at all the installations that are out there already working,” they challenge in a defensive tone of voice.

Indeed, there are something like 250 to 300 community Wi-Fi networks in operation today, though only a handful are largely populated cities. And the operations of most of these networks aren’t being challenged by a second, or third, or fourth provider entering the market (can you spell “competition?”). Additional providers could potentially cause interference in Wi-Fi’s unlicensed spectrum, which offers equal access to all potential users of Wi-Fi’s 2.4GHz and 5GHz spectrum. It would be up to the providers to work these issues out among themselves.

Perhaps most interesting is whether it’s actually legal for individuals to simply choose to share their Internet access connections with anyone off the street. ISPs liken the move to “stealing” video programs over cable, which we all know is the ultimate telecom sin.

Then again, you might have any number of people within your home wirelessly sharing your Internet access connection at any given time, whom you may or may not be related to. Your ISP doesn’t know who and how many of these wireless-device toting folks are in your house (and presumably doesn’t care, so long as it can limit your overall access rate to what you’ve contracted for). Is there a difference if the party doing the sharing is inside our outside your walls?

Time – and likely a court case or two – will tell.

Just tell them that sharing is caring. But so far, do you think Malaysian will share their wi=fi network?

New public Wi-Fi community emerges

By Joanie Wexler

Ever hear of FON? It’s a worldwide company, founded in Spain. Late last month, it passed out free Wi-Fi routers in downtown San Francisco during an event it dubbed “Freedom Friday.” Such a deal: They usually charge a whopping 5 bucks for the devices! A “freedom” day in New York is next up for later this year. FON represents just the latest twist in grass-roots efforts to distribute free or low-cost Internet access to the masses to see what creative and interesting activities might result. The idea is that home users with wireless routers share their broadband Internet access connections with others. There are three categories of users. The biggest category consists of “Linuses” (presumably a tribute to open source icon Linus Torvalds). Linuses share the Wi-Fi connection they have at home with so-called “Foneros” (other Wi-Fi users who are part of the FON community). In return, they get free Wi-Fi access wherever they find a FON access point around the world. Another category of users is called “Aliens.” These folks use a FON router but haven’t been persuaded to share their Wi-Fi connection (yet). They get charged 3 bucks a day to use the FON community’s grass-roots Wi-Fi network. Finally, users called “Bills” want to make money from sharing their Wi-Fi connections. So, instead of free roaming, they get 50% share of the fees that Aliens pay to access the FON community. FON’s wireless routers, called La Fonera, use separate Service Set Identifiers for the home user and the outside folks sharing the Internet connection to keep indoor connections secure. The issues abound, of course, from skewing current city/metro/county Wi-Fi business models to creating irate ISPs. More on these next time.strong>Wonder when will Msian community start doing so for the sake of iritate ISPs?
