First of all, who you define as blogger? What is the definition of defining of a blogger? Owning a web with .my suffix? Or having a web hosted locally? How you define when one having multiple location that hosting the web whereby the backup is located locally in Malaysia?
From what I know, to owning a .my suffix wasn’t easy as it required a business registration for a start. Therefore, if Malaysia government wanted to registering the bloggers just by the suffix .my, they need to reconsider again the approaches. Moreover, the cost of a .my suffix is way more costly than a .com suffix. Same goes to the locally hosted web hosting. If the registration imposed to all the local bloggers whom hosting their blogs locally, most of them will decided to move their host to overseas. This will indirectly hurt the local web hosting provider. Moreover, for my case for example that my server is located in United States but my web host is registered and operating from Malaysia.
In fact, there are so many issues to considered about. And according to earlier research by Sabahan, I notice that 16% blog about politics out of 50 Top Influential Blogs in Malaysia. This mean actually 8 out of 50. As for recent news from Nuffnang, the total bloggers registered is 800+. This mean out of 50, there are 800 more blogs around which some of them dedicated to certain or specialized topics, for example Food, Cars and much more.
If the move to registering bloggers means to prevent the spread of negative or malicious articles on the Internet, I personally would believe that it is just way absurd as prevention is through education and awareness. We all know for sure that the recent advertisement on the road safety was loosely based on the scare or fear factor. Whereby they portraying the death of a motorist for example killed by a truck for ignoring the red light of the traffic light. Hence, the move for registering bloggers in my humble opinion is just another fear tactics to be deploy to prevent the spread of malicious contents. Likewise, I strongly suggest that the government reconsider the option and there are better ways to ensure the bloggers practicing the responsibility of their rights.
I don’t define myself as a blogger too. Because of the followings :-
1. I am not a woman
2. I am employed
3. I don’t really lie.
