1-700 (One Number Rules Them All)

Under the Sun

TM have recently launched a new program - a new service to be exact. It is to take control of your numbers. Their slogan? “1 NUMBER rules them all 1-700)

I talked to Mahafiz from the TM Point located at the Maxisegar building, Pandan Indah. Given the instruction to make their life difficult by asking so many questions, I started by asking about the pricing and how it works.

First of all, this service will cost you RM9.90 plus RM1.00 for dunno what reason which amounted to RM10.90 a month. That’s the minimum and fixed amount payable. This does not include hidden charges which will be 4 cent per minute (RM0.04/minute).

The RM0.04/minute only applies to non-Telekom Malaysia number (in this case as long as you transfer/route to Telekom Malaysia fixed line number - eg. 03, 04, 05 prefix). This means as long as you routed to your mobile number or roaming number, hence they will charge back to you at RM0.04 per minute.

At the same time, the caller will be charge at the normal call rate to whatever number being routed. Confusing? At first it was. Then after Mr. Mahafiz explain another time, it become clear. In order to ease the understanding, here the illustration below:-

Let say A call B at B’s 1-700 from 03-3311173173. Assuming B setting his 5 number (the max, which the fifth has to be fax number) to the following :-
1. 03-8811967
2. 04-99119394
3. 012-33991122
4. 019-1234567 (roaming)
5. 03-4221122 (fax)

the call will routed from 1 to 5 in an descending order.

If B answered at the #1, hence it will become a local call. Charges that applies to A is local call rate.

If B answered at the #2, A will be charged at outstation call rate (adjacent state call)

If B answered at the #3, A will be charged at the mobile call rate, B will be charged RM0.04 per minute

If B answered at the #4, A will be charged at the mobile call rate. B will be charged RM0.04 per minute excluding the roaming charges

If B answered at the #5, A will reached the facsimile number.

If B do not answered, A will reached to the voicemail. Charged at RM0.30/minute.

At the same time, you can call to make the changes at the website or call 1-700-800800.

SMS is received at the first destination number that can support SMS capabilities.

My Findings:-
Pro
- 1 number, ease of mind
- callers will not know what’s your number
- can screen and block up to 10 numbers
- able to set DND which route to Voicemail
- we can choose ringtone which applies to all numbers
Cons
- too many hidden call charges that might hinder caller to use this number.
- 12 month contract
- max of 10 voicemail can be stored
- changes can be made only at IVR(charge at 4sen/minute) and website

My personal recommendation - not worth it.

On this day..

This service is new. I have never heard about such service. It does provide some advantages but will it be acceptable by the user. How much benefit could they get?

tough to say. the cost of 4sen/minute is killing if you take a lot of call on ur mobile. 2 way charges. ^^
