Dark Web

Firefox, Information Technology 1 Comment

and the spider sense's tingling. Thanks to Google, we know that one out of ten web pages contains malicious code that can infect our computers.

Installing itself without users' knowlegde, it can act as zombies or become spyware, spying through keylogging and etc. According to the news, most of it come from 3rd party - be it the widget or web traffic counter or those ads banners that pay you good amount of money.

But most important is that they using the vulnerabilities in the browser, Internet Explorer. Safe guard your PC. I know you need it. Just click here

However, I do concern if the themes, extension or even add-ons I had for my Firefox, does it comes from the reliable source? Are they free from any of those malicious code? What kind of assurance I will get from the Firefox team?

Let’s Adopt A Pet Today

Firefox No Comments

Been a while since my last update on my beloved Firefox. So, it’s time for all of you, the Firefox users to adopt Kit. Developer Kit.

Based on the MDC blog archives, below are the excerpt from which I copy and paste.

Web developers: there is a new ally in the fight for open standards on the web, and while he only looks to be about a foot tall, he appears to be extremely effective. He took SXSW Interactive 2007 by storm, and has already been on DL.TV. He’s just a young little fella, so we call him KitDeveloper Kit.

That wasn’t always his name, though. He was born at the 2006 Firefox Developer’s Summit as Renardo, dreamt up by Chris Beard and made into reality by Sean Martell using only his trackpad and his incredible Adobe Illustrator skills. We’ve continued to work with Sean on revising the design, and soon enough Kit will be gracing some items at the Mozilla Store, but now he’s available to you, free of charge. You can get desktop wallpapers of Kit, pleading with the world to use open standards in the development of next-generation websites. The wallpapers are Creative Commons licensed, and free to use as long as you heed the Mozilla trademark policy.

Show your support for the use of open web standards by grabbing one of the incredibly cute “Developer Kit” wallpapers today!

I just made him my desktop wallpaper. Isn’t it cute and you feel you also wants one too? Go ahead, don’t be shy.

Firefox 2 : Security Encryption ?

Firefox No Comments

I not sure whether most of the FF users already upgraded to the Firefox 2 or not. However, the other day, my FF crashed and eventually I went to update it to the later version.

The thing is with Firefox 2 is the security. They are treating SSL 2.0 as weak and deemed unsafe protocol. Therefore, by default Firefox 2 disabled the SSL 2.0 and running SSL 3.0 instead. This caused me difficulties when trying to access webpages that are running under encryption of SSL 2.0. Some of the websites for example maxis.com.my (for the billing system).

In order to solve the issue, I have tried accessing the option pages but left with 2 options either SSL 3.0 or TLS 1.0. Not satisfied and eager to solve it, I believe there will be someone throwing the question to mozilla group. Luckily I found out that the solution is on the config page. But which option they have disabled.

security.ssl3.rsa_rc4_40_md5

To enable it from false to true. Go to location, key in about:config to access the page. Then, key in preference as above, and change the boolean. I tried the maxis website later on and successfully logged in.

After all, it shows that FF gives the users more control over the browser. So, we still need to take back the web. :p

Cheers.

Firefox 2 Beta 1 Status

Firefox No Comments

Firefox 2 is out. But not ready for mass consumption. Errr.. meaning better wait and see.

The browser wars are heating up, as the first beta of Firefox 2.0 is due on Tuesday July 11th, and Internet Explorer version 7.0 is now on it’s third beta release.

Firefox fans, and browser junkies have an opportunity to get a jump on Tuesday’s beta, as a public “release candidate” has been posted on the Mozilla FTP site. This nightly build is finally feature complete, although it’s still not completely ready for mass consumption.

from PCMAG

and according from CyberNet, they have some tweak for FF2. Check them out.

Firefox 2.0 Beta 1 is scheduled for release on Tuesday but there are some things that I want to show you before you start using it. Things like removing the red “X” from each tab or maybe only placing a red “X” on the current tab. I will also show you how to prevent the scrolling tab-bar which is a feature that I am not too fond of. I have broken the page up into sections so if a section doesn’t interest you just skip to the next one.

As for me, I’ll just play wait and see.

Firefox : Deer Park Alpha 1

Deer Park (Developers Only) | Project Plan for Deer Park

Asa Dotzler has announced that release candidate builds of Deer Park Alpha 1 are now available. Deer Park is the codename for Mozilla Firefox 1.1 and Deer Park Alpha 1 is a preview of 1.1 aimed at developers. The builds available today are Deer Park Alpha 1 release candidates.Deer Park Alpha 1 intentionally uses a codename rather than the Mozilla Firefox branding to dissuade end-users from downloading the preview (an end-user beta will be available closer to the final 1.1 release). In the tradition of Mozilla renamings, Deer Park Alpha 1 has previously been referred to in planning documents as the Deer Park Developer Preview, the Firefox 1.1 Developer Preview and Firefox 1.1 Alpha. Note that while this release is termed as an alpha, it's actually based on the Mozilla 1.8 Beta 2 code. The final Firefox 1.1 release will be based on the final 1.8 code.

I've just downloaded and currently running Deer Park Alpha 1, just for testing and trying out purposes. At the same time, updating my blog. My coconut cranked and I'm still lack of sleep. I'm always lack of sleep. Below are some of the snapshot I found improved from verison 1.0.3 of Firefox. Note the logo for Deer Park as well. | | Last but not least, some other sites that mentioning the Deer Park Google Blofgoscoped and Slashdot

Why People Can’t Accept Firefox Yet?

Firefox, Rantings Ramblings No Comments

What’s wrong with Firefox isn’t Firefox’s fault In conjuction with the article, i do certainly agree with what others have to say. In fact, there are few website that require me to run IE in order to work properly. One of the website that are not compatible with FF that i can remember vividly is the jobsdb.com.my. It’s totally sucks. Oh ya, i just remembered that the dvrplayers.com cannot be run on FF as well. I’ve been trying to play the mix.fm from there using FF but to no avail, it couldn’t be loaded. I have to ended up using IE.

I’m still using FF and only resort to IE when i MUST using it to get what i want. Otherwise, i choose not to go to jobsdb, instead jobstreet.com.my
