Apple iPhone vs. Microsoft OQO Model O2

Information Technology 5 Comments

When Jobs launched the iPhone, a lot of hypes and hoo ha coming from all sort of sources. The technology, the joint venture with Cingular and so on. Then comes to Cisco who also have used the iPhone name in their LinkSys line. Throughout the period, Apple Inc stock market rises and causing the other mobile manufacturers stock price drop slightly.

Then came the Microsoft’s Gates with the new Vista Capable OQO’s Model 02. Ironically, in their website, the background of the model itself shows the Firefox browser. Isn’t suppose Vista supporting their IE or they(Vista) just wanted to make FF compatible?

Apple iPhone vs. Microsoft OQO Model O2

This leads to me that the entire world is moving towards the era of mobility. I believe what these people saw is the 10 years down the road future. Just like yesterday I had a conversation with Daniel, he asked when was the last time you went out of home without a mobile? How many times in a year you go out without a mobile phone with you? I’m sure mobile phone has become a part of our lives. Kelvin said that it has become his third testicles. Stick to him all the time.

With the mobile phones or smart phones in the market, it is not sufficient enough to meet the demand of new breed of generations. For me, I wanted to have a mobile phone with all the computer have just the triple play ready (supporting voice, data and video). Instead of carrying the multiple gadgets around us, like the character in the movie “Night at the Museum” Don played by Paul Rudd. He had all the gadgets around his waist. Just like the Broker Batman.

When last time whoever the first manage to penetrate the end user market, known as Home Computer or Personal Computer, they were making the money. Being the pioneer and leading the way. Now, whoever who manage to monopoly the market by being the first single system whereby capable of integrate the entire system one is using. For instance the contacts, schedules, Instant Messaging (such as Skype, MSN Live, Yahoo! Messenger and AOL), telco providers on voice (eg. via GSM, EDGE, 3G, HSDA and so on), connectivity various capable like Firewire, USB, bluetooth, Infrared, WiFi, WiMax and so on.

The best is like when I have a intelligent cum brilliant phone, I wanted it to be the secondary computer. It has the features what a notebook+computer+pda should have. Just similar except smaller. Whenever I am with my primary choice of hardware, it shall take over and sync among each other. If I am not reachable at my office number, there will be a routing feature to not only route the call but also various data. And these people can reach to you via a single contact point.
I can start to imagine that the iPhone shall become the universal remote control that control our lives. Remotely able to perform a basic phone functions like accept and deny calls, watching movie/video to listening to music, making schedule and surfing internet, to reading blogs and even programming your household items like television, microwave to even air conditioner. And all you need is a single handheld equipment. The iPhone. Just imagine the possibility.

Oh well, let’s just sit back, relax and watch the gruesome fight between these big boys. Sooner or later, there’ll be a lot of alliance and joint ventures between the software giants, with hardware giants or even more acquisition. And in the end, it will become like a giant multi billionaire corporation like in the movie, Resident Evil’s Umbrella.
