The Swing

To Ponder About, Understanding Me, Myself No Comments

As I fell asleep in my uncle place, I had a dream. It was an unbearable dream. Fascinating and intriguing which I straight jot it down once I awake. Here’s the dream goes…

In the dream, I just moved into a 3 storey house with a porch garden at the sides of the house. In front of the house lies a huge parking space which could accomodate up to 3 cars. The place was very serene. Then, I walked into the home and suddenly, I saw G. She came down to KL with her friend, Miss A. Appearantly she decided to drop by my place without pre-notifying me of her arrival.

At the same time, my mom was on her short break from her monthly confinement job. I told my mom that she and Miss A planned to had a sleepover at our place since they didn’t book any accomodation yet. This time around, her aunt also came along with her to KL. So, my mom decided that she need to rearrange the beds so that it could accomdate the three of them.

G slowly pecked me on my cheek, right cheek to be exact and her action caused me to feel disturbed. It actually trigger my mind that it is a very disturbing message she is sending to me. Therefore, I grab courage of myself to ask G why. Why she decided to peck me on my cheek? Later, I found out that she was still feeling unsure and disturbed. She was confused about as of her direction. Her sense of direction in life.

She then said that she remembered that I told her before that there’s some spirits / ghosts stayed on top of the building which I am currently staying. These supernatural stuff where hiding above of the lot. However, unrelated to this was that I told her that I liked to spend some time alone with her above in the swing. I notice that the dream I had is quite similar to the typical setup in the Hong Kong movies/dramas whereby the rooftop can be converted to a studio type. In my case, in this term should be known as dream, the rooftop was converted to some mini garden with a swing.

I said that I didn’t go up there for quite some time. It has been a while and I felt kinda afraid to go up. Hence, she insisted that she wanted to go up there to seek some answers. I was thinking, seeking answers from the supernatural stuff? The ghost? What kind of answers she was seeking? I was curious in which I asked her what answer?

As we know, dreams often ended up suddenly, without a proper closure or endings. In this dream, it was left there and there.

I shall never know the answer to her question. Kindly note that I had this dream earlier this year. Looking at my journal book, it stated the date of April 29th 2007 dated 12.47pm. Yes, I do have my afternoon nap.

The Replacement Mentality

To Ponder About No Comments

Replacement. Getting a new to replace the old. It’s all caused by the commercialised world. Do we ever notice that things are no longer repaired. The work and labour of getting certain things to be repaired is a lot more than purchasing a brand new one.

My housemate just got his laptop ruin. In order to get it repaired, it is going to cause him a bomb. Then he seek for the consultation from the local computer hardware shop; the recommendation was to get a brand new laptop which seems viable and acceptable. I was talking to a patron from my friend’s shop. Appearantly, this old guy did seek out from the local electrical shop and what they suggested to him was to get a new dvd player instead repairing it. Getting a new one as compared to repairing was like the 60% difference. Not much though and most of us will get tempted for paying a little extra to get the newer one; in which it has more functions that we might or may not use it.

Come to think of it. Is it because we human like brand new things or is it because that the manufacturer excelled in concealing the knowledge so that there won’t be many people knew how to fix it. Therefore, when no one knows how to fix they ought to get a new one? Of course there are things had their “Meantime Between Failure” (MTBF) and “Meantime Between Repair” (MTBR) which nowadays the MTBR does not applies anymore. A friend of mine sold of his Honda Civic because the motherboard was causing some minor problem. Knowing that not everyone is capable to fix it and these minor problems shall remain he quickly sold it off just in case in future there might caused him further headache in terms of monetary in the sense of maintenance.

Looking back, there wasn’t much stuff that was send for repair aside from the car. I had a 10 years hi-fi system which I don’t think there would be anyone wanted to fix it. The cost of getting a brand new set is about the same for repair. Maybe the replacement parts is also the killing factor. Electrical and electronics. Sigh* Not everyone knows what and where to solder. Therefore the best way was to get rid of it and purchase a new one. Maybe if we are lucky enough, the meantime between failure happens during the warranty and we can exchange it instead of waiting to be repaired.

The other friend of mine whom dealt with the handphone shop once told me that for certain mobile phone model, please pray hard that the screen won’t spoil. Once it is spoilt, the cost of replace the screen will not be cheaper by 10% of getting the same unit brand new. :( So, how many things that we are being coaxed to buy and replace instead of fixing it?

LANFAR?

Huh?, To Ponder About No Comments

What is Lanfar?

In cantonese, as I check with some friends it means play the prank or pulling one’s leg.

Hence, I discover there’s actual company registered under the name LANFAR.

Does it mean the company’s main operation is to pull people’s leg?

“If you have a job without aggravations, you don’t have a job”

-Malcolm Forbes

Looks as it there were so much of complains every now and then. But it’s true. My friend often tell me it is the conflict of interest. Why I asked. His explaination was plain simple.

First of all, the boss pay you for 8 hours a day job. Hence he expect you to work your asses of for additional few more hours. Better still if there’s no overtime claims on it.

Secondly given the fixed amount of annual leave, x, it is best that you got yourself forfeited the annual leave in this case denoted as n. Instead of working x number of days per year, you work x+n number of day. That n is the profit he gained.

Last he is a capitalist in the capitalism society whereby he tried his hard to capitalize you. Yes, you…

So, now you know…

A cup of coffee

To Ponder About 2 Comments

I am currently in the Oldtown Coffee with the toppest management meeting meet about watver shit we can talk. Hence, it reminds me of a story. A story of a cup of coffee… and the uniqueness of the coffee itself. This is how the story goes…

” The happiest people in the world are not those who have no problems, but those who learn to live with things that are less than perfect.”

A group of graduates, highly established in their careers, got together to visit their old university professor.
Conversation soon turned into complaints about stress in work and life.
Offering his guests coffee, the professor went to the kitchen and returned with a large pot of coffee and an assortment of cups - porcelain, plastic, glass, crystal, some plain looking, some expensive, some exquisite - telling them to help themselves to the coffee.

When all the students had a cup of coffee, the professor said: “If you noticed, all the nice looking expensive cups were taken up, leaving behind the simple and cheap ones.
While it is normal for you to want only the best for yourselves, that is the source of your problems and stress.

Be assured that the cup itself adds no quality to the coffee.
In most cases, it is just more expensive and in some cases even hides what we drink.
What all of you really wanted was coffee, not the cup, but you
consciously went for the best cups… Then you began eyeing each other’s cups.
Now consider this:
- Life is the coffee; the jobs, money and position in society are the cups.
- They are just tools to hold and contain Life, and the type of cup we have does not
define, nor change the quality of life we live.
- Sometimes, by concentrating on the cup, we fail to enjoy the coffee
God has provided us. Enjoy your coffee!.”

The happiest people don’t have the best of everything.
They just make the best of everything.”

You are the miracle, my friend;
Your life either shines a light OR casts a shadow!
Shine a light & Enjoy the Coffee!!!

Blogging inspiration

To Ponder About, Understanding Me, Myself 1 Comment

After been here for sometime, I had lost it and found it. Yes, indeed I have lost my innocence and found the blogger’s block. Basically it means I am so blur about myself that I ended up ain’t got much to blog about. Just when it seems to be drained, I have yet to turn to the surrounding for inspiration. The world itself is an oyster to me.

Notice I did that there wasn’t much of a proper post as well as good content. Some that came by would eventually think that my blog can be considered as a money making site that just got nothing but biased content paid by the advertisers. I am not being paid well to do that. So please that into consideration that I do still have the desire for blogging. It all drills down to the time and effort spent. In fact, at times I do envy of 5xmom and Ahpek for putting such effort in writing posts. Especially when it comes to few posts in a day.

The nature of my job does not giving me the luxury of sitting down and blog about things I had in my mind. Even my mind is being clouded with the job. Yes. Every minutes and seconds are being spend on the thinking of the work. Dealing with the customers and the business partners. How to go ahead from here. Planning every single move ahead in the corporate world. Knowing what are the things needed to be done. Actions to be taken. It really suck all the brain sap I had, which in the end I am dead tired to think further on the blog content as well as the language.

I don’t mind that the job is eating me up mentally, just that things that are confusing me myself and I. Knowing that in the coming Raya holiday, I planning to take 2 days leave sandwiching the public holiday I still need to apply not only to my immediate superior but few level up. So in case I am going into the boss room tomorrow to appeal for the leave (yes, i am using the word appeal even though I deserve it but not in the eye of my boss), pray for me ya?

To add the salt into the injury, the absence makes the heart go fonder. Rather some would say that it is rather the out of sight, out of mind. :)

I’m done for the day. Time to bed.

The Instant Mentality

To Ponder About 3 Comments

Every morning I wake up to the rich aroma taste of the instant coffee. Packed in 3-in-1 regular Nescafe classic, a cup of it jump start the day with extra excitement. In this fast paced world, everything has to be fast. The window of opportunity comes and goes in split of seconds. Like the other day when I passed by MRR2 on my way home, which the route that I often use. I came across a large billboard displaying 2 cups of coffee and a saucer. It forms a smiley face. It was an advertisement of a instant coffee. A 3-in-1 coffee.

Our lives had become instant society. We had instant noodles. Instant coffee. Instant messaging. Instant picture. Instant this and instant that. Everything seems come with a shortcut. 3 minutes ready instant noodle. You no longer need to wait for another day just to get your noodle. Omit the hassle to get the ingredients to prepare a meal. Just add hot water. The instant mentality that caused us to be fast, immediate effect. Like cooking. To shorten the time, we use microwave. Instant. The next minute the food is ready to be served.

We are like chasing the time. Endlessly. Even in the relationship that is has been shortcut in a way. Instant relationship. The transition between the unknown - to friend and then to couple is instant. People take the form of instant mentality. No longer being patience with the things we do. Either in every single aspect of our lives. So, what does that makes us? We enjoy instant gratification instead of the delay gratification. Like the old sayings “Susah susah dahulu, senang senang kemudian” - let there be trials and tribulations so we could enjoy the fruit of labor in the later days.

To borrow the excerpt from the site here:-

“The ‘instant’ mentality is problematic. When you don’t get instant satisfaction, many people give up and turn away, creating a lot of instability in their lives.” For Gouder, marriage here is on a losing end as the ‘instant’ mentality gains ground:

“Around 20 per cent of people change their jobs. The politicians on one side say this is positive, others negative, but what could be really happening? The truth is that today’s mentality is that ‘nothing is permanent.’ This affects marriage as well, when people start doubting whether the word they gave their wife was permanent.

How we are going to address such issue in our society….
