Unpolished Diamond

How a person reacts to criticism often means the difference between success and failure. Take the case of Ole Bull, the famous Norwegian violinist of the past century.

His practical father, a chemist, sent him to the University of Christiania to study for the ministry and forbade him to play his beloved violin. He promptly flunked out and, defying his father, devoted all his time and energy to the violin. Unfortunately, though he had great ability, his teachers were relatively unskilled, so that by the time he was ready to start his concert tour he wasn’t prepared.

In Italy a Milan newspaper critic wrote: “He is an untrained musician. If he be a diamond, he is certainly in the rough and unpolished.”

There were two ways Ole Bull could have reacted to that criticism. He could have let it make him angry, or he could learn from it. Fortunately he chose the latter. He went to the newspaper office and asked to see the critic. The astounded editor introduced him. Ole spent the evening with the 70-year-old critic, asked about his faults, and sought the older man’s advice on how to correct them.

Then he canceled the rest of his tour, returned home, and spent the next six months studying under really able teachers. He practiced hours upon hours to overcome his faults. Finally, he returned to his concerts and, when only 26, became the sensation of Europe.

Am i too old to learn a few tricks of those?

The Pig and the Cow

“Why is it,” said the rich man to his minister, “that people call me stingy when everyone knows that when I die I’m leaving everything to the church?”

“Let me tell you a fable about the pig and the cow,” said the minister. “The pig was unpopular while the cow was beloved. This puzzled the pig. ‘People speak warmly of your gentle nature and your sorrowful eyes,’ the pig said to the cow. ‘They think you’re generous because each day you give them milk and cream. But what about me? I give them everything I have. I give bacon and ham. I provide bristles for brushes. They even pickle my feet! Yet not one likes me. Why is that?’”

“Do you know what the cow answered?” said the minister. “The cow said, ‘Perhaps it is because I give while I’m still living.’”

Friendship is a plant of slow growth and must undergo and withstand the shocks of adversity before it is entitled to the appellation.

George Washington

No matter how things going bad. Friends will still be there. Just that despite whatever happens, if it survived the odds to come… it is worth cherish above all. Do not let such tiny things in life hinder the growth of a friendship.

That’s why it was said that during the bad times, a real good friend will walk in when everyone walks out. Who was there when you needed a listener. An ear to hear you rant, cries and your bitterness in life especially you got out from a relationship.

Who was with you when you failed in exam? Lost a job? Lost someone close? A friend in need is a friend indeed.

If we having water as fuel

To Ponder About, Under the Sun No Comments

The Sime shall out of business. Hahaha. Anyway, it is said that there is a discovery of the salt water using as fuel. Releasing hydrogen.

Taken from here

During several trials, heat from burning hydrogen grew hot enough to melt the test tube, he said. Dr. Roy’s tests on the machine last week provided further evidence that the process is releasing and burning hydrogen from the water. Tests on different water solutions and concentrations produced various temperatures and flame colors.

“This is the most abundant element in the world. It is everywhere,” Dr. Roy said of salt water. “Seeing it burn gives me chills.”

I was wondering since the world in 3/4 made of water - especially salt water, what if we have enough radio frequencies to cause it to release hydrogen and burn? Then we will be really living in a living hell.

“I’m getting sick of pretending to be excited every time it’s somebody’s birthday. What is the big deal? How many times do we have to celebrate that someone was born? Every year, over and over … All you did was not die for twelve months.”

- Jerry Sienfeld

As for me, here’s how I would like it to be.

I’m getting sick of pretending to be excited every time it’s somebody’s birthday except mine… which I truly think highly of it.

The most effective way to remember your wife’s birthday is to forget it …. just once.

The author is unknown. So if anyone know, do share with me.

It was a good point, and maybe whoever who come out with such quote may no ceased to survive. How can he comprehend the ordeal of forgetting his wife’s birthday? After all, she was the one sleeping next to you.

Imagine all the treatment she giving out. The physical love - the touching, whacking and smacking. The emotional treatment of plain cold war. Cool~

“I believe in love and marriage, but not necessarily with the same person”

John Travolta

Is the person you love is the person of your lover? Most of the time, we don’t get what we wanted to choose but in the end, we just jump into whatever that comes later on. Just like a failing relationship. We love the person so much that in the ends, things didn’t work out. Both go in their own ways.

As the result, once a while the person will still lingers in their mind. For that they still are the person the other love. On the other hand, it could be that the two of them never get together at all. The other who love the other the most will only wish the truly best and happiness for the other. Simple as that. It was best that the one walk out of the competition and gave his utmost sincere wishes to the couple.

That’s what I understand from Travolta’s quote. Nevertheless, we can’t always have the both world, the same way we wanted right?

So what happened when he or she invited you to the wedding? The wedding of the one you loved most? Watching her walking down the aisle, and her father handed her to the other man, but not you? Ouch~ that was pain but the moment you saw her happiness sparkled through her eyes, you knew that it was for her very best. The dreaded wishes have to be given out. Bless them. Bless them both I would say.

As for me, I didn’t able to make it to her wedding.

Give a man a fish, and you’ll feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and he’ll buy a funny hat. Talk to a hungry man about fish, and you’re a consultant.

-Scott Adams

In good faith for my consultants, that they are called consultants. Another way was that they get paid for first, CON you, and then inSULT you.

If joining the two words together, it becomes CONSULTant..

“Be careful that what you write does not offend anybody or cause problems within the company. The safest approach is to remove all useful information.”

-Scott Adams

Sometimes it is hard to avoid any confrontations, dispute and all sort of thing in work. Hence, we should learn a lot from Scott Adams. His thoughts are profound.

Come to think of it, maybe I should remove all useful information as these can be used to cause problems. Especially against us.
