The Sun Also Rises (Taiyang zhaochang shengqi)

Reviews No Comments

Nice movie. Comparing to the summer blockbusters like Wanted, Journey to the center of the Earth or even HellBoy, I opted for the International Screening last night.

scene from The Sun Also Rises

The movie walked me through the Cultural Revolution era of China. It has few familiar cast in it namely
Jaycee Chan, Anthony Wong Chau-Sang and Joan Chen.

The movie by itself was intriguing. Nothing solid as the story line since it interconnects the 4 short stories, whereby all the characters coincidentally intertwined along their lives. The connection was revealed slowly as the stories progress. The background musics accompanying the movie was orchestra in a playful manner. In the 2nd story, Anthony Wong’s character opened up a different view of the Cultural Revolution. And his suicide death still remains as part of the puzzle.

I left the cinema feeling good and at the same time, puzzled still.

In the end, it doesn’t matter what the story told but knowing that the sun will still rises.

December Movies…. Wanna watch list

Rantings Ramblings, Reviews, Under the Sun No Comments

I don’t know what’s wrong with me lately. Just that its been a while since I frequented the cinema with Vit Ping for a very long time. Due to the work constraint, I seldom joined him for any movie outings.

Now, I keen to catch the rest of the upcoming movies on the silver screen. Some of them which I am looking forward for as follows:-

I AM LEGEND

Robert Neville is the last living man on Earth but he is not alone - for every other man, woman, and child has become a vampire, and they are all hungry for Neville’s blood. By day, he is the hunter, stalking the sleeping undead through the abandoned ruins of civilisation. By night, he barricades himself in his home and prays for the dawn. How long can one man survive in a world full of vampires?

It’s the third version of the I Am Legend which is a 1954 science fiction novel by Richard Matheson about the last man alive on the planet Earth. Just wondering if the ending will be as the same as in the novel?

The Warlords

The film is set in the 1860s, during the Taiping Rebellion in the late Qing Dynasty in China. The story, based on an unresolved crime, tells of three sworn brothers (played by Andy Lau, Jet Li and Takeshi Kaneshiro) who turn on one another over a beautiful woman (Xu Jinglei).

I heard its good. Cannot miss this one for sure.

National Treasure: The Book Of Secrets

Atonement

On the hottest day of the summer of 1935, 13-year-old Briony Tallis sees her older sister Cecilia (Keira Knightley) strip off her clothes and plunge into the fountain in the garden of their country house. Watching Cecilia is their housekeeper’s son Robbie Turner, a childhood friend who, along with Briony’s sister, has recently graduated from Cambridge. By the end of that day the lives of all three will have been changed forever. Robbie and Cecilia will have crossed a boundary they had never before dared to approach, and will have become victims of the younger girl’s scheming imagination. Briony will then have committed a dreadful crime, the guilt for which will colour her entire life. Based on the romance novel by Ian McEwan.

The trailer seems intriguing. And the must bring chick along as well since it’s drama.

Aliens Vs Predator 2

At least this franchise of AVP2 set on a place whereby we can relate to. Not to forget Nuke too! Wonder if there’s be any scare scene. *ehm*

Traffic Flow Changes in Kuala Lumpur

Rantings Ramblings, Reviews, Under the Sun No Comments

Since Monday, the traffic in the city has been getting worse. This is due to the traffic flow changes at the Dewan Bahasa Pustaka (DBP). It has been then closed to build a bridge from Jalan Hang Tuah to Jalan Dewan Bahasa at the intersection of Jalan Hang Tuah / Jalan Dewan Bahasa / Jalan Maharajalela / Jalan Loke Yew

I heard it is stage one of the road closure and we can expect more to come. The road closure will be expected until 11th August 2008. It’s a freaking eight (8) months time….

loke_yew_LATEST

Here’s some of the guide for the road changes.

1. Vehicles from Jalan Istana (the flow from Mahameru Highway) heading towards Jalan Hang Tuah / City Center is urged to use Jalan Wisma Putra (which is temporarily changed to one way flow)

2. Vehicles from KL - Seremban Highway heading towards the Jalan Hang Tuah / City Center through Jalan Dewan Bahasa is not allowed and urged to route through Sg.Besi roundabout / Jalan Loke Yew.

3. Vehicles from KL - Seremban Highway heading towards the Jalan Wisma Putra is urged to use Jalan Sg. Besi exiting to Jalan Loke Yew heading towards to Jalan Maharajalela and exit via Jalan Belfield (next Chinese Assembly Hall).

4. The route at the Jalan Dewan Bahasa from Jalan Hang Tuah (exiting the City Center) heading to Jalan Istana remains intact.

On the other hand, the Cheras roundabout is undergo renovation as well. The motorcyclist lane has been closed to upgrade the Cheras roundabout. Another reason for being late to anywhere or I shall plan my travel 2 hours ahead to avoid any further complication.

Thank you Malaysia!

The Golden Compass

Reviews No Comments

Just to write a short review about the movie. It looks awesome. Much like the Lord of the Rings. Or Spiderman chronicles. But when I went to watch, I realized that it was a cliff hanging storyline which prepare for the trilogy. Wonder what is with all these trilogy? Just another gimmick to prolong the hype of the franchise.

thegoldencompasspic27

I went to watch at the The Cineleisure, Damansara with a friend of mine. I need to thank her for take the trouble to queue up and get the tickets for two yesterday. The hall was packed that night. The story begins with the introduction of Lyra and a little explanation of the Dust. What intrigues me was the daemon. Having a animal like guardian along with you everywhere you go reminds me of the Guardian Force (GF) from the Final Fantasy 8. The only different between the daemon and the GF is that they don’t have special abilities like the GF. However, if the daemon dies, we human dies as well except for the game, its different which can be revived the GF.

Other characters that co-exist in the movie are the talking ice bears whom fight wars, and Gyptians and witches. For people like me, what will the ending like since I never read the book before? Anyway, for the overall story, I would personally rate 3/5. It just the beginning and the development of several characters in the movie. I wonder what the Nicole Kidman can do much more in the upcoming sequel.

:P

Close call?

It appeared that I have been receiving some buzz about the new stuff in town. Picspay. Practically the name itself should be able to give some idea what it’s about.

When I get to hear about it, it appears that it should be getting paid for the images uploaded? or whatever it is. Somehow, it seems that for it pays the user based on the number of hit they getting for the pictures. If I am were to post the porn photos or stuff, can get myself banned. But…. it’s the only kind of images that draws traffic. :(

Being the privillege to use the system, I find that the interface simply a job from a noob. The presentation of the website seems dull and plain. It’s not attractive to use when compared to stuff like flickr or even photobucket. I would say that the designer of this website is a newbie.

picspay

Just take a good look. The main page have a very plain design. No logo. Nothing. A plain CSS1 furthermore. sigh* What I expect of the designer was that he come up with relatively something good although some of the display, he tried his best using CSS to display in table format instead of using the table properties. But sigh* there are mixture of the designing when it comes to CSS. Let’s just hope that the designer team from picspay will clean up the dirts behind. Hahaha..

Lastly, why I bothered about it after all? It’s just seems promising as they featured referral system whereby if you click this link of mine, picspay, I am getting 10% of what you’ll get from them. Ehmmm….

So what say you?

The other day I went pass by the video shop. Hence I stepped in to look for Bleach episode 141-145 which is available by then. However as I browse through the collection, something captured my attention. The cover of this anime….

I was ignorant about the japanese anime. Especially by those independent film director like Makoto. Just after watching the entire movie, 5 centimeters per second it just keep me thinking. “deep” anime and provoking. I couldn’t imagine the ending is simply simple. Eventually, I keep repeat the scene until I am able to grasp the message. I get to finally understand the message Makoto wanted to convey.

5cm

Human get together and slowly fall apart. The speed is like 5 centimeters per second. How each one and other took the time away. Slowly and steadily drifted apart. Everyone started to have their own life. I began to replay the friends that I had. Andy and how close we were back in Jln Kuantan. When he change school, we still keep in touch but slowly, we go on our own.

I googled for more information pertaining this anime. Then I found some of the info in Wikipedia. There are also few blogs mentioning it and i think it’s worth to share it here. :D

Additional : Everyone carry their tool around. Some big. Some short. Some long. Some small.

Overacted : A man in his 60s climbed over to a higher platform to catch a glimpse of Lin Chi Ling.

Cool : Linpeh and I was eating KFC while looking at platform where the uSqueeze event was held.

Star Idol : Follow up Hishiko

It has been a while since my last follow up on Hishiko. In fact, I never tuned in to the dummy box for the show until few nights ago.

Little did I know that she managed to survive up to the top 5. Does she still there? I don’t know. It has been pretty bad times for her. But she’s tough kind of a gal. So far as I know of.

If you think she’s good and wanted to support her, here’s some of her sms recently.
